This page covers shower repairs in Griffin from the head back to the mixer. You will see which faults a visit fixes, which mean new fittings, and where the Queensland rules draw the licence line. For the whole wet area, start with our bathroom plumbing page.

Shower Faults That Need a Plumber
Three faults cover most of the shower work we do: a drip that will not stop, a shower that never gets warm, and a spray with no force behind it.
A drip that lasts past the taps being off
the fault sits in the wall mixer, where a worn seal allows water through even with everything switched off.
Lukewarm water
the cartridge blends hot and cold inside the mixer, and wear upsets that mix, so the shower never gets properly warm.
A weak or patchy spray
scale packed across the spray outlets, a restrictor inside the fitting, or an ageing cartridge can all dull the flow. When every tap in the house runs weak, the fault sits elsewhere, and we will tell you which side of that line you are on.
Water at the head join during use
the thread where the head screws on has a worn seal or has worked loose.
A brief drain from the head after use is nothing to worry about. The why shower heads drip guide explains where normal ends and a fault begins.
One problem sits outside this page: water getting past the shower and into the wall or floor. That is a leak repair rather than a fitting fault, covered on the leaking shower repairs page.

Matching the Fault to the Shower Part
Working back from the outlet, a shower is a head, an arm or rail, a hose on handheld models, and a mixer.
The head
sprays the water, and it is where scale and restrictors show up.
The arm
bridges the wall and a fixed head; a rail clips a handheld head at height on its hose.
The hose
connects a handheld head to the wall outlet, and kinks or split ends starve the spray.
The mixer
sets flow and temperature through its cartridge; wear there produces a drip, a handle that fights you, or water that never runs hot.
Where a bath spout shares the line, a diverter switches between spout and head. Water coming from both at once means the diverter has worn.
Parts outside the wall are reached without opening anything. A mixer buried in the tiling needs access through it, which shapes both the fix and the price.

Can You Fix a Shower Yourself in Queensland
Yes, for the head only; everything behind it is licensed work. The QBCC treats a shower head swap as unregulated work, so anyone may do it, though the result still needs to comply with the plumbing standards.
Everything behind the head is different. Repairing or replacing a fitting counts as minor work: a licensed plumber does it, with no council permit and no form.
Adding a shower outlet, or shifting one to a new spot in an existing home, turns the job notifiable. No council permit is needed, and the plumber has 10 business days to lodge a Form 4 with the QBCC. The plumber covers the form's fee and may pass that outlay on to the owner.

Repair or Replace Your Shower Fittings
Replacement wins when wear has gone beyond washers and cartridges, or when an outlet is added or shifted; otherwise a repair holds.
Two marks matter on any fitting headed for your wall. Only a product with WaterMark certification may be legally installed, and shower fittings also carry registration under the national water rating scheme, which grades water use by stars.
A new dwelling
needs a showerhead of at least 3 stars; renovations escape that minimum.
Rentals
carry a water rule of their own. A landlord can only pass the whole water bill to a tenant if the showerhead flows at 9 litres per minute or under. For fixtures made from 2005, the Residential Tenancies Authority points to a 3-star rating or higher.
Adding or shifting an outlet
makes the job notifiable, Form 4 included, so plan it with the plumber up front.

Showers in a Suburb Still Building Out
Griffin keeps building out, and the shower work reflects that. Area-level counts show residents up 19.8 per cent between 2020 and 2025, with 389 dwellings approved in 2021-22. One street can therefore hold a decade-old mixer beside a fitting straight from a display home.
The split in the work is easy to see. Showers from the first-decade estates arrive with handles that fight, seals gone hard and cartridges past their best. Fresh builds mostly need a water-saving head change or a warranty swap.
Both ends of that range keep us busy, from the streets around Osprey House to the newest releases inland.

Shower Repair Questions
Call (07) 3524 7137Why does my shower head drip when the taps are off?
The fault sits in the wall mixer, not the shower head. A worn seal there lets water creep through overnight. A few seconds of drain-out after use is normal; a drip that lasts minutes is not.
Can I change my own shower head in Queensland?
Yes, anyone may swap a shower head in Queensland. The QBCC calls the swap unregulated work, and the finished job has to satisfy the plumbing standards. The arm and mixer behind it stay with a licensed plumber.
Why has my shower gone cold?
A worn cartridge in the mixer often causes it, because wear upsets the hot and cold blend. Cold water at every hot tap points to the water heater, or to a fault on the Unitywater supply, rather than the mixer. We check the mixer first, then the unit.
What flow rate can a rental shower head use?
No more than 9 litres per minute. That flow rate is one condition before a landlord can hand the tenant the whole Unitywater bill. For newer fixtures, the authority suggests 3 stars or more on the water rating label.
Should I repair or replace my shower?
Replace once the wear goes deeper than washers and cartridges can fix, or once an outlet is being added or moved. A handle that fights, wrong temperatures or a drip that survives fresh parts all point that way.
