What a Queensland Plumbing Licence Covers

Queensland runs two licence layers: an occupational licence for the person on the tools, and a contractor licence for the business behind the job. The QBCC issues both. The occupational licence proves the tradesman holds the skills.

The contractor licence proves the business carries the financial capacity and training to run jobs properly. Three licence classes sit underneath:

  • A plumber's licence covers the plumbing work itself, apart from anything needing its own endorsement.
  • A drainer's licence covers below-ground drainage work, again outside endorsed work.
  • A gas work licence covers gas systems. Only a licensed gasfitter may install, alter, repair, service or certify a gas system and its pipework, and you can ask to see that ticket before any gas job begins.

Regulated plumbing and drainage work splits into permit work, notifiable work and minor work. A licensed tradesman must do all three, which the QBCC says protects your home, your health and your rights. Our gas fitting page covers the gas side in more detail.

Paperwork and Inspections After a Job

Oversight is split between two bodies: the QBCC handles licensing and the notifiable work register, while the City of Moreton Bay assesses applications, grants permits and inspects. You receive documents depending on the work:

  • A copy of the Form 4 after notifiable work. If none arrives, the QBCC can supply one.
  • A gas system compliance certificate straight after gas work on a new install or alteration. A copy goes to the gas network operator inside 5 days where the system runs off a network.

You may also request a council inspection of notifiable work at any stage. An inspector may attend with the occupier's consent if the council makes contact within 1 year of the notice being lodged.

How a Plumbing Job Runs From Call to Finish

  1. 1

    You describe the fault

Ring (07) 3524 7137 or send the form with what you have noticed. A clear description means the right parts come on the van.

  2. 2

    We diagnose on site

We test and trace until the fault has a name, whether that is a perished seal under a vanity or a drain running slow after a summer storm.

  3. 3

    You approve a fixed figure

You get a fixed quote before any work starts, with flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees. Nothing begins until you approve the figure.

  4. 4

We do the work and test it

The repair goes in, then gets tested before we pack up. Work on a job like this is done by a licensed tradesman start to finish.

  5. 5

You pay and get the paperwork

Pay by card or EFTPOS on site, and any Form 4 or gas certificate is handed over with the receipt.

Questions About Our Griffin Plumbers

Call (07) 3524 7137

How do I check a plumber's licence in Queensland?

Search the QBCC's online registers. They confirm whether a licence is current, and an address lookup shows whether a Form 4 was lodged for a property. Ask any gasfitter to show their ticket before gas work starts.

What can I do if plumbing work in Griffin turns out faulty?

Raise the fault with the plumber first and give them the chance to come back. If the work may be unlicensed, defective or non-compliant, you can lodge a complaint with the QBCC online. A missing Form 4 for notifiable work can be reported the same way.

Which suburbs around Griffin does the team work in?

The team covers Griffin plus the surrounding suburbs, including Kallangur and Mango Hill, which each have their own page. Every street on the run is listed on our areas page, so check there before booking.

Does the team work on units and rentals in Griffin as well as houses?

Yes, we do. We work for owner-occupiers, landlords, tenants and unit owners across Griffin. Who approves the work differs in a rental or a unit, since the owner or body corporate signs off rather than the tenant.
